McCartney to host virtual dinner, and giveaway an unreleased track.

Paul is in the habit of giving things away lately.  He gave away free copies of his latest album release, Memory Almost Full with the Sunday newspaper.  It looks as if he is mining an unreleased track to giveaway for a good cause.

Fans who make a donation to his favorite charity, Adopt-a-Minefield, will be elgigable to access this previously unreleased track in all its glory.  It’s intersting to see Paul utilizing technology, and an interesting combination of marketing, charity, and technology to his benefit.  It’s really cool to see a musician of his stature do something like this.  I would hope that The Beatles as a group would embrace technology (ahem…iTune) and make their music that more accessible.  It would at least show that they are a little with the times, and not holding out.  I digress, it’s cool to see Paul using his music for a cause he believes in as well.

Here’s what we’ve read.

British rock icon Paul McCartney has agreed to be host of a virtual dinner party to raise money for Adopt-A-Minefield, the charity said.

As part of The Night of a Thousand Dinners event, individuals, corporations and communities are encouraged to raise funds for landmine removal and survivor assistance by holding dinners and, in lieu of flowers or wine, asking guests to donate to Adopt-A-Minefield.

Anyone who registers as a guest for McCartney’s virtual dinner party at http://www.paulmccartney.com Thursday, World Environment Day, and donates a minimum of $25 to Adopt-A-Minefield will get a one-time-only exclusive download of a previously unreleased track called “Lifelong Passion (Sail Away)” as well as some special vegetarian recipes from celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

“The Night of a Thousand Dinners is not only a great way to raise money for a just cause, it’s also a good way for friends and families to have fun together,” McCartney said in a statement.

“It should be a priority to clear arable land of landmines so that communities can once again use their land to grow their own food. Some music, some fantastic recipes from Jamie and hopefully, with your help, we’ll be able to raise the much needed funds for the cause.”

  2. well…. its going to be REALLY REALLY difficult for The Beatles as a group to embrace technology since half the group is no longer with us and the other half arent speaking. but yes, Ringo has released the only album i know of on a wristband, and McCartney is itching to get the music released on the sonically inferior digital format, so yea…. id say theyve embraced it. i wont go into the technological innovations they were part of in the 1960s when they were working and alive. thatd take all day.
