Sir Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Sound triumph + VIDEO.

Can you imagine proclaiming a gig as his best one ever performed?  Paul McCartney has played thousands of gigs throughout his storied career.  I mean, he played Shea Stadium and The Hollywood Bowl to a ravenous audience.  He played Live Aid twice.  But this huge homecoming, and celebration of Liverpool itself is the brightest and best gig of his career.

It looks like his hometown of Liverpool, with the world watching, ranks on the top of the performenace heap though.  We wish we could have been there to partake in all of the festivities.  It looks like he pulled out all the stops.

Here’s the setlist from the show:

Hippy Hippy Shake
Drive My Car
Flaming Pie
Got to Get You Into My Life
Let Me Roll It with the Foxy Lady outro (played a guitar designed like the large guitar he signed for charity)

C Moon
The Long and Winding Road
Dance Tonight
Calico Skies
In Liverpool
I’ll Follow the Sun (with 4 endings)

  1. Too bad Paul & Ringo couldn’t have been there together.

  2. Yeah, it would have been nice to have seen Ringo too but after his recent comments about Liverpool, he would have been booed off stage. I wanted to see a reconciliation with Pete Best or a duet with Gerry Marsden but that was not to be. Still, it was an amazing concert. It was great being there!

  3. Sir Paul’s always been a favorite. Glad you enjoyed it

  4. George gave Paul that ukulele? Aww, how sweet! I’m pleasantly surprised he sang “In Liverpool”. It’s a pretty obscure song since it was never actually released on an album.

  5. who played with him please

  6. Does anyone know if and when the BBC TV are going to repeat the Liverpool concert?

  7. Coachella April 17, 2009

I saw Sir Paul and he is indeed a Knight of the Realm with an amazing 2-1/2 hour non-stop performance that I guarantee no other modern rock performer is capable of, and he is 66. He gave the audience it all, heart, soul and self. What a high wire act and what a daredevil. Just reporting the facts as I observed them on the seen. Compliments to each and every unique member of his wonderful and talented band.
