Could we get an iTunes Superbowl announcement (Take II).

Could the rumors be true this time?  We’ll have to tune into the game and see.  I personally don’t think it will happen just yet.  I’d much rather see a press conference/announcement on its own, then a commercial during the Super Bowl, but I’ll take what I can get at this point.  Time will tell.

Is this video the kind of thing we have to look forward to, as we watch the Patriots complete their perfect season (sadly), and beat the NY Giants?  This video will have to tide us over until we get the real announcement.

Here’s what we’ve read.

According to “sources with knowledge of the project,” The Toronto Sun has reported that an announcement that the Beatles are finally coming to iTunes will be made in a commercial in the Super Bowl on February 4, and that they could be available as early as sometime in February.

Fans may remember that an announcement to this effect was widely expected at last year’s MacWorld, and when that didn’t happen, in a commercial during last’s years Super Bowl, which also didn’t happen. Rumors were circulating that an announcement would be made at this year’s MacWorld last week, but that didn’t happen, either.

According to the new report, there would be digital downloads, probably premiering first on iTunes, and remastered CDs, but that iTunes would have a three month exclusivity before CDs were released.

Apple, the computer company, is famous for expensive and memorable Super Bowl commercials, making it easy to believe they would make such an announcement in this way.

Apple, the record company, and EMI in the UK have not commented on the reports.

  1. Ummm…this is a story from last year. May want to delete this one so as to avoid causing another blind stampede!

  2. Sadly??
Sad is not the Pats being perfect (how can perfection be sad?), sad is the ongoing baloney that is the so called remasters.

  3. When will The Beatles “Let It Be” film finally appear as a reissue on DVD?

  4. rick, i’m sorry, it will never come out. sorry.
