New McCartney DVD Set for Release ‘The McCartney Years’

This is big news folks.  It looks like Paul McCartney is released his own solo-themed anthology.  That is quite large news.  It’s not as if we don’t know the solo McCartney story and all of its successes and missteps alike.  The project promises to make video collectors salivate.  I just hope that the Macca bootlegging crowd don’t outshine the officially released project.  Often times that is the case.

The prospect and scope of this project looks to be quite large.  It is my hope that they really do give us what we, as fans, really want.  I have high expectations, and truly hope that care and thoroughness is truly given to this project.  It would seem though that with a retrospective project like this, it would really be perfect timing for a retooling of the McCartney solo catalog.

In light of the announcement of this DVD release, could a Macca back catalog remaster (hopefully complete with B-sides and outtakes) be too far behind?  That would make too much sense.  We’ll have to wait and see. We’ll keep you posted with more details as they filter out.  So far, based on the tracklisting, it looks to be a stunning release.

Here’s what we’ve read.

Features Exclusive Commentary, Behind the Scenes Footage, Over 40 Music Videos and Two Hours of Historic Live Performances; ‘THE McCARTNEY YEARS’ Is Set for Release November 13th, 2007

THE McCARTNEY YEARS’ will hit the stores from MPL/Rhino Entertainment. This first time ever DVD includes the definitive visual collection of Paul McCartney’s amazing career featuring solo music videos, career-spanning live performances, personal commentary by Paul McCartney and exclusive footage that tracks his incredible musical journey as never before.

Spanning four decades, ‘THE McCARTNEY YEARS’ is a three volume DVD collection, featuring some of the world’s best-loved music that has become the soundtrack to all our lives.

VOLUME ONE and VOLUME TWO contain the definitive collection of McCartney music videos. Starting in the 1970s with Paul McCartney’s first solo single “Maybe I’m Amazed,” the DVD includes the Wings promo video for “Band On The Run” as well as hits from the 1980s such as “Say Say Say,” and the 1990s with “The World Tonight.” It finishes with 2005’s “Fine Line.” The films can be viewed either in chronological order or as play-lists that have been personally arranged by Paul featuring his exclusive voiceover commentaries.

VOLUME THREE includes live performances taken from three classic McCartney live shows; “ROCKSHOW” filmed on Wings’ 1976 World Tour, new edits of Paul’s seminal “UNPLUGGED” in 1991 and Paul’s now legendary headlining performance at 2004’s GLASTONBURY Festival.

‘THE McCARTNEY YEARS’ is also packed with bonus features and extra never before seen footage and performances, including “Let It Be” from LIVE AID, archive interviews with Melvyn Bragg and Michael Parkinson, alternative versions of music videos and the full-length 2005 documentary “Creating Chaos at Abbey Road.” Paul has recorded exclusive commentary and personal introductions for each promo video and each live concert.

This collection has been meticulously restored and all films polished, re-graded and given a new lease on life in Widescreen format with re-mastered stereo audio and for the first time the original recordings re-mixed into 5.1 surround sound. ‘THE McCARTNEY YEARS’ includes over 40 promo videos and over two hours of live performances.

  1. I just hope that eventually he releases some “Anthology” type of series of unreleased CDs !!!!! You’d think with the divorce costs & all that he’d reconsider!?! He kept getting close to releasing “Cold Cuts” on so many occasions and then there was all those Oobu Joubu shows…but still nothing formal…and he has loads of b-sides and loads of unreleased songs as well…not to mention demos, live stuff and alternate takes…one can hope, but I think we are more likely to hear from the loaded Harrison vaults (the much talked about & long overdue box set- remember he recorded nearly 3 dozen tracks in the 90’s and we’ve heard barely a third of them), and the now quite lean Lennon vaults (still supposed to be another Anthology type project in the works) before McCartney ever gets arond to it…he out to put Stella in charge of it, and just let it all out. Blessings

  2. There are way too many videos missing from this DVD…”Say Say Say” “Only Love Remains” all the Driving Rain videos. What’s up with that?

  3. i wish rock show would hurry up and come out on dvd. olivia is working on live in 1974 tour dvd and cd for george as well as the live in japan dvd too. and of course let it be is still being done. oh and john lennon live in new york city on dvd…such a big christmas list…plus ringo is doing a allstarr band tour 2006 cd/ dvd set…… this set by paul would be so nice even missing a few videos…i do miss your loving flame video…….

  4. It’s ridiculous that McCartney fans have to wait three decades for a decent copy of ROCKSHOW. All they get is seven songs. And instead of choosing from the original film somebody decided that yet another weak Beatles-cover was somehow more representative of McCartney&Wings than for instance Beware My Love or Letting Go. I’m not going to waste one penny on The McCartney Years, until ROCKSHOW becomes available.
