Friends present $250,000 bail for Yoko Ono’s driver.

Seriously, is this dude as dumb as he is creepy.  Everything about this story makes me sick and sad.  Let the poor woman be.  She’s been through enough, now she has to worry that some other crazy is going to kill her.  Mr. Karsan you truly are a sad individual, you took and manipulated someone who trusted you and got caught.  How sad are you?

Koral Karsan, a chauffeur for Yoko Ono, is led out of the 20th Precinct in Manhattan Wednesday after he was arrested for trying to extort $2 million from Ono by threatening to circulate embarrassing photos of her. (AP photo)As friends put up bail money to get Yoko Ono’s chauffeur out of jail, he insisted she had wrongly accused him.

“I’m innocent,” Koral Karsan told the Daily News in a jailhouse interview published in Saturday’s editions. “I trusted her to talk without an attorney, and look what happened.”

Karsan was jailed after he was accused of threatening to have Ono killed unless she gave him $2 million. Prosecutors say Karsan threatened to release embarrassing recordings and photographs of Ono, the 73-year-old widow of former Beatle John Lennon.

But Karsan portrayed himself as the victim, according to the Daily News.

“She’s using everything against me,” he was quoted as saying.

Karsan, 50, wouldn’t discuss the allegations or his experiences working for Ono, the newspaper said. He has said before that Ono had him arrested to head off a sexual-harassment claim.

A spokesman for Ono, Elliot Mintz, responded: “We will have the opportunity to hear exactly what (Karsan) said in the appropriate forum.”

Friends presented a $250,000 bail package Friday for Karsan, but he remained at the Manhattan detention complex popularly known as the Tombs while the Manhattan district attorney’s office reviewed the people who put up the money. When Judge Tanya Kennedy set bail at $500,000 bond or $250,000 cash, she gave prosecutors 72 hours to investigate the money’s source, a move usually made to ensure the money is not criminal proceeds.

“These are close friends of his,” Karsan’s lawyer, Robert Gottlieb, said of the people who put up the bail. “Neither is a relative. They have no criminal records. They own their own private businesses and have more than enough assets to cover the bail.”

Jennifer Kushner, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, confirmed that prosecutors had received the bail package and was reviewing it.

Karsan, of Amityville, N.Y., has been accused of handing Ono a threatening letter on Dec. 8, the 26th anniversary of Lennon’s slaying. Prosecutors said the letter threatened to release embarrassing recordings and photographs of Ono, and Assistant District Attorney Maureen O’Connor said Karsan told Ono “he had people on standby waiting to kill (her) on his orders,” said.

O’Connor had argued against any bail being set for the Turkish-born Karsan, calling him an “extraordinary flight risk.” She said he has been in this country about 10 years, has family, property and contacts back home in Turkey, and “there is no doubt he would flee” if released on bail.

Gottlieb said both people who put up the bail met with the prosecutor Friday.

“There is no reason for her not to give the OK,“Gottlieb said.

On the night of Dec. 8, 1980, Lennon and Ono were returning home to their Manhattan apartment building, the Dakota, when Mark David Chapman opened fire with a .38-caliber revolver, hitting Lennon four times.

Fans observe the anniversary of Lennon’s death by gathering at Strawberry Fields, a section of Central Park opposite the Dakota. In the past, Ono and son Sean Lennon have placed candles on the windowsill of their apartment as a message of support.
